The 2011 version of the LSU defense, barring a total collapse down the stretch, will make an argument for placement among the legendary LSU defensive units of the past.

The offense is unlikely to be included in that discussion, despite the fact they have played fairly well thus far. The production has been barely above average. On the other hand, the offense has handled challenges (Oregon is a well-regarded team that played with a Newton-led Auburn juggernaut just a few months ago - MSU has a well-coached, big, strong defensive unit), made few mistakes and done what has been asked of them.

We are waiting to see if the offense can consistently uncork it's potential and score big, either to finish an opponent (and, to be fair, they did in convincing fashion to Oregon and NSU - albeit off of a slow start), or will they be good enough for wins only because of the stellar defensive unit.

My personal opinion is the offense has been held back, partially because of limited QB depth, no legitimate running threat from the QB position, Shep's suspension (and, really, the first 2 points are partially due to JJ's suspension) and the desire to control the tempo and run the ball to set up the run later.

Why show a more explosive offense until we need to?

You do not need the threat of the run from the QB position to be successful on offense.

Carry on.
