World #1 for longer than anybody at the time says he got to the top in his generation and his 8 slams proves his worth among his many other accomplishments.
Sampras thought enough of him to train w/ him. That speaks for itself.

May be hard to believe, but Lendl won 8 majors -- 1 more than McEnroe and tied with Connors.
