In all fairness, to me diving on someone and pummeling them is greater intent than kicking at them. I'm seen both, and it seemed like the kicking was "stay down MF" as opposed to trying to kick someone's head or ribs in.

None of it is good, and no reasonable person would ever intend to do either, but drunk, adrenalized kids in a fight aren't thinking reasonably at the time.

I'll admit to something like that happening 20 odd years ago, and waking the next day feeling embarrassed, disgusted, and generally like a piece of dogshit.

BTW, why engage in a fight if you DON'T intend to severely harm someone? Just asking
