People need to understand that right now the only account of the brawl has come from the people filing the charges.

If the alleged aggressors lawyer up and don't speak to the police, the police will arrest the alleged parties if the evidence they do have supports the charges. Then it goes to the judge. It is in the best interest of the alleged to talk the police asap. Their actions make it seem like they are hiding, corroborating their stories. They may lose the battle but win the war. In this case the battle could cost them their college careers even though they are innocent after a trial.

Before consulting with counsel?

What matters isn't what "seems" to be, but what happened.

How so? Do you see this as another Duke lacross type situation?

The football players have a right to cousel. They should rely on the advice and speak only when advised to.

Hardly ever true, if at all. Anyone actually accused of any crime should never, EVER talk to the police without a lawyer. Only STUPID people talk to the police alone when they are suspects or accused. And yes, innocent people can be stupid.
