Fishing at Pass Manchac.

I grew up doing a lot of bass fishing in North LA but have little experience with other styles of fishing. I spend quite a few weekends on the Tickfaw skiing and tubing. When cutting across Lake Maurepas, I usually see boats around the I-55 area. I'd like to give that a try. How and what do you fish with there? Any Tips, Tricks and hints appreciated. Does the tide need any consideration? I've got some vacation coming up in a week and would be out there mid-week. TIA
