These are adults with scholarships to the school they chose to play football for.

My problem is not with the curfew, but what happened after the curfew. They decided to do some shite and should pay for it...hence the reason for a curfew. What kind of example are our seniors setting to the underclassmen?

I'm in the military as well and I've seen my share of guys breaking curfew. Most of the time it's not a big deal because people are just trying to have a good time. They still get punished though if caught, but not as severely to those individuals who decide to do something dumb (like picking fights, breaking other countries laws, etc...)like these football players did.
