Don't even consider it until late Oct or Nov. Also, MS & AR are better camping areas

If you want to venture into MS, my two favorite are Clear Springs Rec area near Meadville in Homochitto National Forest and Cypress Creek Landing in De Soto national forest near Janice. Both close to enough to BR/NOLA for weekend camping trip.

Keep in mind these are Tent "car camping" campgrounds with only a lantern pole, fire ring, and picnic table. No electrity/waters, showers, etc.

Tent camping? I'd go:
Wild Azalea Trail near Alexandria
Primitive campsites at Chicot Lake
Primitive campsites at indian Creek
Red Dirt btw Alex and Natchitoches

Bogue Chitto is my favorite State Park in LA with Cajun Palms being my preferred private park.

Lake Claiborne state park is a pretty good place.
