You are also failing to consider that on that particular night there were a number of times where Darron Thomas made poor reads in the option game - specifically during plays using the new formation(s.)

Poor reads? That’s being nice. Thomas (and I’m a huge Thomas fan all the way back to his recruitment) was abysmal in that game. The worst I’ve ever seen him. If he plays even an above average game yal win. If he plays like he did against USC, yal win by 10+. Kelly’s wrinkles with the fullhouse and two-back sets were genius and had gaping holes that Thomas just shat the bed on.
I could go on for hours and breakdown all of Thomas’ misreads but it would take forever.
