Was just listening to the Herd, and according to Colin Cowherd, Atlanta is clearly a better team than New Orleans right now, and proceeded to rave about reports stating that Julio Jones is looking phenomenal in practice and that he will have a huge impact right off the bat.

I generally like Cowherd (and I know people here think he's a dingbat), but honestly, I'm not entirely sure how you can say Atlanta is clearly better than New Orleans. I mean, we split the series last year, and if Hartley doesn't miss a chip shot my grandma could make, we sweep em. Sometimes the logic of well known sports analysts and media just amaze me.

Thoughts?

Why are you worrying about what this douche says? He's generally wrong about 95% of the shite he says.

My thoughts: Stop paying attention to TV & radio personalities who pass themselves off as sports experts.

If Hartley makes that 29yd FG, we have beaten the Falcons 4 times in a row. Our record against them lately has been very good not sure where he's getting that. I think they're going to have a rude awakening this year about some of their defensive defecincies. GB I mean just totally made a fool out of them.

Cowturd has an entertaining show no doubt, but he's a ratings whore. He was Atlanta's biggest supporter last year too. Take what he says with a grain of salt or just wait till he interviews Dilfer to get the real scoop

I've heard some ESPN radio personalities joke about how CC tends to avoid actual facts and stats to make his points. The guy likes to make analogies to prove his point of view that just make no sense at all, but it makes him sound smart. He knows what he's doing, and it's being the ESPN radio DB, plain and simple.

I don't think you should worry yourself about Cowherd, but for him to say they are clearly better is absurd. These two teams are the cream of the crop in the NFC right now, and lets just leave it up to the games to decide who's better shall we?

I'm not sure they will be able to repeat the same success. While they had much of the same exact last minute wins and crazy luck we did, they didn't have the skills to back it up when it really mattered.
They took their luck into the playoffs but were severely exposed by a very talented Green Bay team. While it took us a lot of luck and the ball bouncing our way as well, we backed our luck up with consistent play. I think that's the biggest difference.
You need luck and skill.

He probably had a co-host with an oposing opinion......Just trying to drive up ratings. It's what keeps him employed/makes him money.

Are there any good Louisiana type sports shows on in the morning or mid-day? I listen to Cowturd at work, it's okay sometimes but It'd be nice have another option. If yes, a link sure would be appreciated.

check out slate's "hang up and listen" podcast on itunes.

sports radio is generally terrible and caters to truck drivers. any time I can find an intelligent sports show (it's usually a podcast b/c radio shows HAVE to appeal to "joe truckdriver") I hold on for dear life.

^ THIS ^

What happened? Oh yes, I remember. We played them at home. Ran all over them, offensively and defensively. Matt Ryan chokes.

They then beat Carolina, no big deal.

Then they have a week off to chill, practice, drink margaritas or whatever. Then Green Bay rolls into their home, wrecks their s**t, and Matt Ryan chokes.

He still plays like a rookie QB and falters at the least convenient time for his team.

I didn't for one second believe the Falcons are actually in better shape than we are.

We have the better QB, OL, RB, TE, defense, & special teams.

Don't really care for people who automatically put a team over the top soley because of a rookie.

He's pretty bad under pressure when he doesn't have time. I think Michael Turner is going to be worn the hell out in the next year or two as well.

It's a sports forum. I figured I could get some legit discussion going about comparisons between us and the falcons (or the rest of the NFC south).

My first mistake was not that I was listening to cowherd. It was assuming I could get any shred of an intelligent repsonse from people like you.

No offense man, but you are asking for people's opinion based on a question in regards to another (less intellegent) man's opinion. You are bound to get some slightly opinionated responses.

Agreed. I believe Turner lead the league in carries last season, and historically that doesn't bode well for the following season.

And for all this talk about Julio Jones and the fact that Atlanta gave up the farm for him, he had better be insanely productive, otherwise you've set your franchise back a couple years over a #2 receiver. Of course that would be perfectly fine with me
