Swing plane certainly influences whether you hit it left or right. However as you know, the position of the clubface at impact determines where the ball is going left, straight, or right.
And concentrating on taking it back on a more inside path reduced the slice for me.

Many moons ago, I remember this fixing mine as well. I was told to keep my right elbow tucked close to my right side on the back swing. Then, I ended up hitting a bunch of hooks, so I had to find the balance between the two.
