I had an 05 6.0 and never had any trouble until I paid it off and my warranty expired (after 100,000 miles). After that 5th year(last year), I put $7200 in to it. First time it was the high pressure oil pump and it just killed on the highway and wouldn't start. Next time it was the EGR cooler. It was a slow leak at first and I just kept adding water until one day the coolant all came out at once on the interstate and I overheated quick. Got it fixed and no head damage according to that ford dealership. A year later EGR cooler problems again and head gasket and head problems. Traded it in and got a 2011 F-150. It would have been $6,000+ if I would have fixed it so that would have been $13,000+ invested into it in 2 years. It also had only 113,000 miles on it.

Sounds like Ford was monitoring your ECU and hit the self destruct button as soon as your warranty expired

Yea tell me about it.
