And LSU could've covered the Hicks one up and no one would have ever known. Similar situation at South Carolina last year when the free hotel rooms were in play - nothing happened except the players sat out a game or two and reimbursed the cost.

Based on how well LSU has handled this in comparison to recent events, the NCAA is reinstating the scholarships, giving LSU additional roster spots this season and next.

Timing of NCAA's LSU sanctions suggests: 1. This relates to asst coach D.J. McCarthy. 2. NCAA has a second investigation ongoing into LSU.
Don't know if this is good or bad.. Potentially a major pitfall though if Lyles is considered a booster for all programs involved at a later date and LSU would be considered a repeat offender at that point.

Thanks for stating the obvious, Charles. Nothing to see here, move along people.

Major violations can have minor penalties
LSU football's only major violation to date resulted in a one year probationary monitoring period without any additional sanctions of any kind.
No bowl ban, no scholarships lost, no wins forfeited or vacated. Nothing.
In fact, all of LSU football penalties have been self-imposed.
Fingers crossed this continues to be the case.

Robinson: "This is an announcement of a Committee on Infractions hearing that took place months ago, so it isn't Lyles or recruiting service related."
I think everyone agrees (hopefully the NCAA too) that the self-imposed penalties were adequate. This is getting so annoying these a-hole media outlets use the words "NCAA investigation" to build hype and generate news nothing more..

If LSU was very upfront about this (which it seems they were) it would be foolish for the NCAA to hammer us. The NCAA knows the best way to police college football is to have compliance departments that are open and honest.
The NCAA can not have eyes and ears everywhere and I would think they would reward compliant behavior as long as the self imposed punishment is appropriate. If they do hammer us it would send a message to compliance departments to lie and deny at all costs.

What words should the media use?

With LSUs track record of being a clean program I would be blown away if we got hit with anything hard. I'm going to laugh when the NCAA flexes their muscles and makes it 5 scholarships over 2 years

We couldn't be repeat offenders as we wouldn't have been under sanctions at the time IIRC.

Love that show, just finished episode 28 last night. The wife and I started watching a couple of weeks ago and try to catch at least one a night. Had issues on Sunday with Netflix being down though.

JMO, but I think the NCAA will categorize it as a major violation, accept LSU's penalties and tack on 1 (maybe 2) years of probation.
LSU handled it the right way, but the fact remains that one of their coaches clearly and intentionally violated NCAA rules and provided a recruit/player with extra benefits. NCAA might also issue a show cause order related to McCarthy (which will have nothing to do with LSU of course).

Was a rogue coach, who was taken care of.
If that was the case, and I was a filthy rich booster, I'd pay close to 1 billion for an assistant WR coach on Auburn to do all kinds of crazy shite just to get them fricked over.

Actually, if you read the report, it says that it wasn't a major violation.
LSU football to date has NEVER had a major violation.

This.
If a program gets hammered for doing the right thing, they may as well cheat their asses off.
