I just watched the Youtube video "Auburn D vs Oregon O" to re watch how their O did against a decent SEC D.

It looks to me that Oregon's O runs a lot of the same play just out of different sets (Zone Read Option, RB screens, WR screens, ect) and Auburn did a very good job at stopping most of the plays all nite long. I am very excited to see how LSU gets set up against all of these sets and how we bring pressure throughout the game. I hope we put the hurt on em and show them true SEC speed because their better running plays were outside.

Not real worried about our O because they have to replace 5-6 of their front 7 and I really think we will run all over them. We don't need Jefferson to light the place up just play somewhat well...

(If anyone wants to watch the video I saw it's Auburn D vs Oregon O 2011 BCS Nat. Championship)

well, the zone read is the base play of their offense. They run it both inside(dive) and outside(sweep). They vary on who they read based on what the defense gives them. Auburn's D line was so fricking good last year, that it, coupled with D. Thomas choking harder than Lebron in the 4th, led to a complete shutdown of UO rushing attack.

I think the Zone Read plays perfectly into our hands though. I say this because we have big, athletic D-linmen and that makes the read so much harder for the QB.

We've defended fairly well. Take Florida under Urban Meyer, I think we did OK.

I will agree that we must do a BETTER job of defending it b/c Oregon runs it as smooth as any spread offense I've seen.

think shitty ole miss teams the last few years and our unbelievable struggles against an average offense. weve always struggled with running QBs, even when lord saban was here.

I still have nightmares of the AU game last year

I would have to disagree! Yes, we MISSED a lot of tackles. Don't confuse not being able to defend b/c of scheme and poor tackling. Hell, we made Arkansas look like a power football giant last year b/c of poor tackling. On the other hand, we shutdown the best running tandem in all of college football in Ingram & Richardson.

So again, don't confuse the two. I do agree that we have struggled with running QBs. That is just a result of our aggressive play style.

But my point was that we tackled poorly against Auburn. It wasn't because of defensive scheme.

this. Auburn got nothing on us through the air, and if we could have simply wrapped up and made the tackles, we hold that offense to around 10 points just like we did in 09. The difference in that game was that freak of an athlete Cameron Newton.

I love our d and all, but I think some of our better moments had a good bit to do with KS and his quick play recognition. He made sure our guys were in those good positions.

LSU's success in stopping Oregon will be how good is LSU up the middle in quickness and sure handed tackling. That was how Auburn shut down Oregon's fast pace offense. You have to put quick pressure up the middle against that fast pace offense to force them to react your defense and not LSU reacting to their offense. In other words you have to dictate the pace of the game and not them, that is what will make the difference against the fast pace of their offense.

The fastest way between two points is in a straight line and that is what they do they line up and go straight up the middle until you can prove to them you can stop them. That is why it looks so fast is they go straight ahead once they are past the initial wave of tacklers then they make their cuts off that and that determines where they go from there. The next time you get a chance to watch the game again watch the quickness of Auburns defensive front line and how quickly they get to the QB and force his hand into making mistakes that is where the turnovers and offensive penalties come from the ability to get into their backfield quickly. LSU has the quickness and overall team speed to make it work but, will they be in good enough shape to carry it out for a full set of downs without substituting because if they can't Oregon will give them fits that is what they are all about and the reason the game is being played in Texas and not here in Louisiana in the first of September that was a smart move on Oregon's part and not so much for LSU. If the game was here in Death Valley it would be a real Death Valley for those Ducks with their fast pace offense the heat and humidity would slow it down with out LSU having to, can you imagine what it would be like for them off that cool West Coast into this steam pot of the Gulf Humidity and hot temps?

Dumbass...The game was postponed due to rain/lightning. They did not have to deal with the heat at all. It was not hot at all that night. Way to know what you're talking about though.

I agree with most of 7th ward's assessment on the OU offensive scheme after watching the Auburn OU BCSCG replay 4 times already ... I'll watch it another three more times before the real game. This OU coach has to having nightmares about how he's gonna attack LSU, given personnel matchups. It's gonna be the all Thomas show in 2011 and LSU is gonna bring the pain to this kid. He'll regret signing with OU, this is a certainty

On the Offensive side, if JJ doesn't give the game away with more than 2 turnovers, LSU is gonna GUT STOMP this defense

... I can close my eyes and picture Ware busting big plays ALL NIGHT LONG on oregon's defense ... going right at them!

If JJ is on, it's gonna get ugly EARLY.
