instead of paying the over inflated prices for fenix, surefire, streamlights (except for a TLR-1s), etc. I usually get my frick around lights from DealExtreme.com. If you look on the left hand side of the link you can search lights by type and battery (pay attention to the battery your chosen light takes). Cree is gonna be your brightest. Lumens is the rating assigned to "brightness". I bet your little Cabelas light is only about 25 Lumens, while your buddy's streamlight is probably more like 120 lumens. One of the lights I just got off dealextreme is something like 230 Lumens and will shine clear all the way down the street.
One caveat about that site though is they are located and ship from Hong Kong or China and it takes about 3 weeks to receive your package. So, whenever I order from them I take advantage of it and get several and also some of the other smaller stuff they offer like iPod cords (identical to the apple one) for $1.50.

I'm definitely gonna look into this. That CREE light looks great. I can also use an iPod cord or 2, my phone charger cords keep shitting out on me. Thanks

Another thing to add, lithium batteries will make your lights brighter and advertised lumens does not always equal actual lumens.
