No, it's how smart athletic departments view financial success. It's football and everything else. But there are a handful of other sports that have value regarding their ability to make some money or at least break even. And then there are those sports where you can win a hundred NC's in a row and it will still be in the red. T&F happens to be in that group.

I suppose if the only thing you care about is winning the Director's Cup like Stanford does. Since they fund nearly every sport under the sun.
