I think they did, but Henry wasn't asking that from LSU, just some kind of investment/sign of appreciation.

Skip said no, decided to throw money at womens basketball instead

When Skip took over for Joe Dean, Pat Henry was the highest paid coach in the country, and made slightly more than Sue Gunter. During Bertman's first three years as AD, Henry won six national championships (3 women and 3 men), and by then, Henry was not even one of the top-10 highest paid coaches in the country and made barely half of what Gunter made. I rest my case.

Skip had/has an ego and it reared it's head more than a few times when he was AD.

I've heard tell that the last time LSU swept the men and women's track titles not a single official from the athletic dept. was there to greet him and Henry told folks privately that was very disappointing.

Hard to believe, but heard it from more than one source.
