"Your avatar was removed because .gif animations are no longer allowed." - This would have sufficed instead of "not appropriate" which is vague.
I have a lot of experience being a mod on various boards and the way you handled this situation tells me a lot.

It may be vague, but "not appropriate" doesn't lose any meaning.
So you put it back up again, instead of asking why? Good move.

Alley, I would venture to say that if you are this reactionary and uptight on your boards, they must be a real hoot.
