I have the aforementioned boston whaler that needs to be repowered, all new mahagony, new steering system, the whole nine including a new gel coat probably. I figure for around 5k and some elbo grease of my own, I could get this done, but I am contemplating wether it is worth it.

What says the OB. Is a boston whaler hull worth it,or should I just get rid of it and get a used aluminum hull.

FYI I want to have a boat to chase reds and maybe some trout.

TIA

Helped a friend redo a fiber boat years ago, it was better than the original, but. If you weren't going all the way I'd constantly be worried.
I'm a big fan of getting something either new or in real good condition and keeping it that way.
Whalers are very nice if in good shape.

That is a lot of time to put into a 15' boat for specks and reds, I might would have a different oppinion with a 18' boat...

I would go new....because no matter what you do or how much work you put into it, your still dealing with a 30+ year old hull.

1k. No title on the trailer but it is in good shape. Motor could be tuned up but doesn't run right now. It turns over though.

Sounds like one heck of a project. For me it's one of those "all ya gotta do is...." projects.

What I mean by that is that you think you need what you stated but oftentimes when I take on a project like you speak, it NEVER goes like I think it will and takes more time and $$ to make it work.

I would pass on it and get something else.

Buy a surface drive setup that you can also hunt with.
