I think it was more of a issue with Duck fans either A)could not find any tickets in time to buy or B)did not want to spend, a grand, 2 grand, 4 grand for a single ticket. I am guessing the later. But you must know, Over a hundred thousand Ducks did make the long trip to Zona. Most just did not buy a ticket to the game.

PMJI, but there's another explanation. Oregon doesn't have the tradition, longstanding fanbase or long-term alumni booster support that Auburn or most other SEC teams have.

Plus, there are more alumni / boosters / students / well-heeled fans at Auburn than Oregon. Add to that the fact that there's precious little reason to stick around bumfark Alabama in the dead of winter. And many of us had already made one trip to Arizona last season; maybe the economy's booming down south, but out here it still sucks.

Several of my friends went to the game -- I couldn't make it having blown my travel budget on a roadie to Wazzu last year -- and according to them, the mix was roughly 60/40 barners. Clear domination, attendance-wise, but not exactly a blowout.

Y'all have to realize that us Oregawn fans are relatively new to this whole football-as-worthy-of-our-attention thing.

We spent decades worth of Saturdays in the fall fishing, hunting, skiing, sailing, protesting, getting high, etc.. anything *but* going to Autzen. The students rarely filled their allotment of 5000 seats, except for the OSU game, and the only other game that came close to selling out was Washington -- because their fans would drive down I5 in their Jags, buy up all the tickets and treat it like another home game. Embarrassing.

I vividly recall games at Autzen in the early-mid 70s with 15k fans bouncing around the concrete bowl as the Ducks would get shellacked again. The low point was a game against Utah in '75; we'd lost 15 straight games, and the announced attendance was 11,000, most of whom were disguised as empty bench seats.

It's only been around the last 25 years or so that we've even dreamt of any degree of consistent relevance within the *conference*, never mind nationally.

So with Oregon, you get the football-fan equivalent of someone who grows up in a double-wide and suddenly learns they've inherited a fortune. The new fans -- I don't call them bandwagonners, but they do bear the traits -- weren't born into it, not used to it like U$C or Udub fan (at least before Udub crashed and burned into obscurity). As a result we tend to be less arrogant and insufferable than Trojan or Husky fan -- but also somewhat cocky, parochial and hair-trigger defensive.

I chuckle at some of my fellow Duck fans' reaction to the question here. I can tell you Autzen can be loud and intimidating. But to say there's any comparison to a full Tiger Stadium for a conference night game requires a degree of delusion that I can't reach.

It's math, folks. 92,000 > 59,950. Especially after drinking all day. Which is one reason I'm glad this game isn't being played there, although I'd love to see a home-and-home.

Benzduck: Though your post had a lot of truth, it did have some whoppers of errors. I do realize you desire to be a history teacher. And I do realize you desire to make friends to attract some to your private blog site for more website hits. But please...

Not one person was saying UO had more or equal to the same number of AU fans INSIDE THE BCS GAME. I was saying however UO did show up in Arizona in droves. And I used the figure of at least over 100k. I know their were at least that many because that is the figure that Jerry Allen gave to their crews estimate of just that one Alum sponsored rally. (LSU fans, Jerry Allen is to us as what Harry Carry was to the Chicago Cubs and then some-ie HE IS the face of Oregon Football to us). If you take issue with this fan estimate that Jerry said, send Jerry an email. I was only dispelling the myth that no Ducks showed up to Glendale. I know we had at least 100k in the city because of that game, but as I easily pointed out, not all bought a ticket.

Other Ducks have been simply quoting non biased reporters/ coaches/ or former players. If a reporter for Michigan who has also been to the swamp, the shoe, Death Valley, and Autzen, says nothing comes close to noise as UO, I will take him at his word. And one can find endless other quotes from various sources. However, if you think about it, they all have one thing in common. They were all from people who were actually down on the playing field. LSU people need to understand that our field is down in a big pit, deep down, with walls all around it, and also with fans right on top of you, as it was built cheaply and very small and not much room off to the sides of the field. It may be loud in the stands, but it is ear crushing down on the field. That is why ESPN and all the other press from others say it's the loudest and if they have never been there before they are so shocked because it's a small stadium. Plus, don't forget the fans. They yell their bloody mouths off, most while standing the whole game, holding the sign of the "O" up. Anyways, the sound on the field is much louder then in the stands and it is a fact.

Michigan Stadium has way more then LSU at 109,901. It is the biggest stadium of any kind in America. And it is not loud. Therefor size or number of people does not always equal how loud a stadium is. Therefor is indeed NOT MATH! That stadium is built so the sound goes out easy. And other reasons can be for the type of audience it draws. Neyland Stadium is bigger then both ours as well but from my Tenn friends they tell me they get tons of rich old guys there that just sit there and don't get into the game with noise. I could go on and on and list tons and tons of stadiums that are bigger then Autzen to which no one would challenge that they are quieter.

Personally I think LSU has one awesome stadium and overall game environment and LSU fans should be proud. And I would even say- their place has the potential to be louder then UO maybe in a peak one time play or such. But if any average reporter visits any random game/ day or night, and goes to both, they will easily consider UO consistently louder, though LSU can spike much at certain plays or moments of excitement for sure. And I am talking from what the players hear(like apposing QB's) on the field, and not just fans way up in the seats.

And another different point is many of LSU's older fans say the stadium has declined some from its hay days.

If in doubt though ask the reporters or coaches who have been privileged enough to be on the playing field at both stadiums. Although maybe they are "delusional" too?
