The word I got from someone I trust is that they will open it tonight.

Can you confirm this?? IF they do open tonight then they need to start notifying people NOW.....I just cant imagine that this could be true

ACOE and the State of Louisiana been saying for at least two weeks that there was an above-average chance that Morganza would have to be opened due to the historic nature of this flood. We've been discussing it here at TD for at least a week, if not longer.

If that isn't enough notice for someone with even a few grains of common sense to think: "Gee, maybe I should pack up all my valuables in advance, and get ready to relocate to higher ground on short notice", then that person is way beyond help.

You would think all the Humvees and Military personnel would've tipped them off?

They've know for several days...it's not like it was a secret that there was a strong chance the the Morganza would be opened.

I am pretty sure, but who knows? If think everybody knows to stay out of the Spillway right now. I drove in about 100 yards yesterday and it was deserted. Also, water will not instantly appear in Morgan City or Amelia the second they open the Spillway. They have to open it one gate at a time, and it is probably 100 miles as the water flows from the gates to Morgan City.

Notifications began several days ago. Coworker of mine lives uptown NOLA and he had a sticker on his front door yesterday saying he could get 3-4 feet of water in his house and to prepare to evacuate Sunday afternoon if necessary.

edit: He lives uptown New Orleans (Riverbend area, Oak St.)
