ETA: Anyone on here done this? I want to change my tank out on my F250 diesel with a 67 gal tank. is it worth it. I would assume the extra weight would negatively effect my mpg for the first half of the tank but it would be nice to go ~900 miles per tank.

My dad has had a few auxillary tanks in his F350's over the years. If you travel alot its a huge benefit and time saver to not have to stop every 400 miles or so for fuel. You don't really think about it but by the time you stop, fuel up, pay, take a piss, etc you've killed 30 minutes or more. The weight wouldnt be that big of a factor. You'd only be adding about 500lb over your stock fuel tank. No big deal for a diesel. If the benefits outweigh the cost to you I highly suggest them.

A saddle bag tank in the bed would be the cheapest...

Look up Titan tanks they make 52 gallon replacement. It looks like it only sticks a few inches under the frame rails. I bought a RDS tool box/ fuel tank combo from Northern Tool. I put a T into my fuel fill and ran a hose through the bed of my truck to the tank with a ball valve on the tank. It doesn't over flow and I can leave it open while driving although the fuel gage freaks out and goes to E after about 100 miles of the needle not moving. It does pick up and read normal after the auxiliary tank is drained.

This was how my dad's first tank was setup. The fuel gauge would flip out and throw a check engine light. No big deal. His current tank has a fuel pump with a an electronic control box. Basically the control box monitors the factory fuel gauge. When the guage gets below 1/4 tank it flips on the pump and fills the factory tank to 3/4. Repeat process until the tank is empty.

I may look into this, I just didn't want to lose bed space

I would add another tank to the other side of your chassis. You don't want 67 gallons sitting to one side. Its only 200-300 extra pounds so it doesn't effect fuel mileage really, but would wear on tires...etc to one side of the truck. I had a stainless fabrictor build an auxillary tank for mine which has worked great. 70 plus gallons of total capacity - 1200 miles

The titan is a straight replacement and may be more what you are looking for. I needed the tool box anyway so I went that route. Cost me around $800 I think teh Titan tanks are closer to $1k

I'm no expert, but a source I spoke to claims that while there is certainly convenience to not having to fill as often he said you lose some fuel economy up front by adding several hundred lbs of fuel to your total vehicle weight. He said diesel generally weighs up at 7 lbs per gallon. I dont know if this really means anything FWIW..

The loss in economy would be very minimal, if any at all. Adding ~50 extra gallons of deisel would only be about 350 pounds. No different than carrying an addition passenger or two.
