Agreed, 'street ball' isn't 'NBA ball'.

I don't know if the street ball team was from LA or NY market, and the NBA team was say New Orleans or Memphis I'd bet Stern would have both Crawfords and Bevatta calling that game

Depends on the rules they play by.

I and I'm sure others have seen smaller-scale versions of this in university recs. Every time, the college team destroys the rec all-star squad, and its never even close.

There aren't 100 Abdre Johnsons but there's easily 5 guys out there playing Rec ball that could compete in the NBA. I'm talking role players, but not star-level.

If the NBA thought they could play, they would probably be on a team or in the D league. I can buy a couple people slipping through the cracks, but I gotta think they have scouts at bigger rec games.

at any rec team being able to contain Chris Paul.

There's tons of great athletes in the hood who were never eligible to play high school ball and thus were not recruited by colleges and thus were never even on the NBA's radar. The thing about basketball is even poor kids from the hood can train/practice basketball everyday, especially if they don't have school or jobs. That's not really the case with football and baseball where most practices need to be organized and paid for.

Baton Rouge has players that can almost hit their head on the rim, are fast, and can drain 3's.. That doesn't necessarily make them NBA material but I shudder to think what talents got left on the table in the larger cities.

I agree just trying to make a joke about NBA fixing games for larger market teams

Considering the OP was a response to

Just like any NBA scout could go into the ghetto's of New York, Chicago, L.A., or Philadelphia and find 5 black guys and make 1 NBA team that would compete with ANY team in the playoffs right now.

It doesn't mean that. BUT you would still have to scour the rec leagues of the country or at least the 10 biggest cities to find 5 guys who have NBA ready talent for even 10 guy on bench level

i dont think people realize how tall 6"6", 6'10", etc really is. Or how gifted you are to be that tall as well as skilled like good NBA players are.

sure there might be 5 guys around the US who never played in the NBA that could suit up and get killed by a real NBA...they might look like players, but i doubt they stack up.

Does anyone else remember the show Bob Knight had like 5 years ago?

The reality show where like 6 rec league guys competed for a walk on spot @ Texas Tech?

There was one episode where these rec league guys had to play against the 6'8, 6'9 scrub white guys on Techs bench. and they got destroyed.

yeah, exactly. Sit courtside at an NBA game and anyone who thinks it would be easy to field a team of 5 scrubs after watching a game would be full of themselves.

If time was spent to really pick the best "streetballers" out there, get them a good coach and even a month of training any NBA team in the playoffs would beat them 150-25. Not even fricking close.

Since you're talking about college try-outs I'm assuming the try-out talent pool was limited to people who were enrolled in college. Those kids likely played HS basketball and were mediocre since they didn't already make the team.

It is naive to assume that all elite athletes actually were eligible students in high school, much less college. There's some diamonds in the rough, I'm pretty sure about it. None are going to enroll in college, though.
