I'm working on a formula to calculate how awesome or shitty your life is based on sports. I'd appreciate your info if you have a minute.

So, your info...

Who are your teams? List them in order of how much they mean to you. Also, beside each team, list the team you hate the most in that league/level, as well as how many years you've been a fan of that team.

My info:
1. LSU Basketball, Arkansas, 24 years
2. LSU Football, Arkansas, 24 years
3. Saints, Cowboys, 24 years
4. Hornets, Spurs, 8 years
5. LSU Baseball, Arkansas, 20 years
6. Mets, Braves, 2 years

I'm in the process of updating scores right now.

Scores:
xiv 7.66
RammerJammerBammer -8.21
UFownstSECsince1950 4.94
chalmetteowl 4.80
MrWiseGuy 8.65
Gmorgan4982 9.38

run the numbers again for the saints and falcons, 19 years of fanhood?

Saints, Falcons, 19 years (no misery since we won a SB and the Failcons flamed out one and done)
Hornets, Mavericks, 9 years (not much misery since we've been generally decent since moving to new orleans, with a superstar to watch and we killed the mavs in our playoff series against them)
VooDoo, Predators, 7 years (Preds have always been better than the 'Doo, and we've never won in their building)
Cubs, Cardinals, 16 years (maximum misery)
LSU, Alabama, 15 years (no misery even though nick has beaten us. we've won our share with 2 national championships, no matter what the rant says)
Chalmette, Holy Cross, 11 years (maximum misery as the memory of 2003 is fading. thankfully holy cross hasn't won a state title in a sport that matters. wrestling and swimming in 3A don't count)
Wolverhampton, West Brom, 7 years (wolves led 1-0 at WBA this year but carlos vela equalized for the boing boings. may 8th will determine the misery level as wolves could stay up or be relegated based on the second west midlands derby result

What if your teams have changed (ie: you were a bandwagon fan when you were younger). For example, I was an MJ/Bulls fan when I was a little kid, and the early-mid 90's Cowboys were also my favorite team. Don't pull for either anymore whatsoever. So do they get factored in?

Nope. Once you let 'em go, they're gone. I was a Celtics fan growing up, but none of their successes or failures during that time affect my happiness/misery index. They're just not my team.

Alright, I'll go back and edit my list in a minute. Only problem with mine is that #2 and #3 will switch back and forth certain years....but I'll go with current. And I guess individual sports, Olympic/USA/world cup can't really get factored into the equation?

If there's a tie, you can rank them like this if you want:
1. Florida football
2.5 Florida Basketball
2.5 Florida Baseball
4. Miami Dolphins

Something like that. I'll figure it out either way.

Yeah that's way different.

ETA: Gotta get out of here and go watch 3 innings of baseball in Flushing before we get rained out. I'll get to work on this later.

You should control for age, length of fandom, psychological characteristics like propensity to get anxious over games, and finally, for involvment as a fan (measured by viewing habits and money spent on going to games).

Then...you take your outcome (happiness) and regress it along your coefficient.

Thus, you could show with statistical significance that, for those with high involvement and high anxiety about their team.....that teams successes or failures produce happiness or depression.

shite...you could get that published if you did it right.

Oh and.....

1) LSU Tigers football - since birth (1982), active fan since age 5 (1987). Hate Bama, Auburn, and Florida the most.

2) Houston Oilers - don't know what you want to do about teams that move, but this definitely sucked. I don't know if the Texans have filled that void yet, either. Hate the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys.

3) Houston Rockets - fan since late 1980s. Hate San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavs, Utah Jazz, and Seattle Supersonics.

4) Houston Astros - only pay attention when they are good. Hate: the Chicago White Sox.

5) FC Barcelona - if I had to pick a European soccer team, this would be it. Fan since - recently. Hate - Real Madrid.

Is there going to be a scale:

10+: Ecstatic
5-10: Satisfied
0-5: Hanging in there
-0 - -5: Pretty miserable
-5 - -10: Grumpy
-10 and worse: Suicidal

I'm hanging in there. I've won a National Championship 2009, been to a finals 2006, and been to a super bowl (xxxiv)...and hopefully to a Stanley cup this year
