Fingerprint cards for CCW Permit.

Hey guys,
This weekend I completed a CCW Permit course. Unfortunately, none of us got fingerprinted as the instructor did not have fingerprint cards; the LA State Police did not respond to his multiple faxes/emails requesting the cards. All 60 of us signed a fingerprint card request Saturday to be sent to our address; he faxed these Mondday, but I've yet to receive my fingerprint cards. I've sent an email to the address on the LA State Police website asking whether I have to get the card from them or can use simply use a card from local police. The email was returned due to faulty address..... Can anyone confirm, without a doubt, that I can use a fingerprint card from a local police or do I HAVE to use one provided by the LA State Police? I'm having to do all of this because FL non-resident CCW Permit will no longer be recognized by LA in August. I have no choice but get a LA CCW Permit, yet the state bureaucracy won't respond, despite multiple attempts.....

as long as it is a clear print of your fingers then you should be ok. If you are not far from Baton Rouge just go to the LSP headquarters and have them print you there. It speeds the process up.

back the truck up a second.
So you live in Florida?

I'm guessing no. Florida gives CCW permits away like candy at halloween. Louisiana honors their permits. Like much of the country it's kinda like you honor mine we'll honor yours type deal. I guess Louisiana is passing a law that doesn't honor "non-citizen" CCWs from other states anymore, so, the OP now has to get one from the state where he is a citizen.
OP I am fairly certain it is a specific card you have to have your prints on. I've been fingerprinted for CCW and the SEC and I feel like I remember each time it was always "make sure it's this card" type deal. For my CCW though I did it at the State Police HQ in BR because they do it electronically and it guarantees you get a good print, so there's no risk of them sending it back and asking for better prints.

I do not live in BR and get to BR VERY infrequently (every couple years...) so having digital print or getting fingerprint card from the LSP office is not an option. Kinda odd that a faster, surer technology like digital prints is not more readily available.
Yes, I am a resident of LA. A number of states, including FL, offer a CCW Permit that they will issue to a non-resident of their state. Previously, LA recognized such non-resident permits issued to residents of LA. Effective 8/2011, that will change. I had to submit to the same criminal background check (something not required for Halloween candy..) w/ FL that I'll do w/ LA. The educational requirement and a number of other things favored FL (in my estimation) at the time so I went w/ the FL permit.
Maybe I'm being overly concerned, but I can't help but worry that if it's this difficult to get a simple fingerprint card from LSP, can I trust them to process the entire packet timely?

I know two people who were each rejected twice due to "unclear" prints. They really want you to get printed digitally at LSP.

A few years ago LSP would not do my finger prints for a USCG license....

If you live in the NOLA metro area, JPSO has an office on the Westbank in Gretna where you can get properly fingerprinted for the CCW on the FBI card. Got mine there - took about 45 min.

All of the fp cards are basically the same. The card I used for my Navy security clearance was from a SO in Alabama, but I got printed here at work. Here's some info from LSP's website. Hope this helps...

TTiger,
I've suspected the cards should be interchangeable, but wanted to confirm it before sending off the application packet. As mentioned earlier, the instructor claims the LSP didn't respond to his efforts to contact them using the website contact info. The email address you referenced is the same one I found to be non-functional..... If I don't find anything otherwise, I guess I'll just get fingerprinted by local police early next week.

I need to renew mine, I guess I have to go through paperwork nightmare again.

If it's only a renewal, at least you won't have to fingerprint......
