BATON ROUGE, La. -- Southern University says it has dismissed athletic director Greg LaFleur who was arrested over the weekend in Houston and charged with soliciting prostitution from an undercover police officer.
Chancellor Kofi Lomotey said Wednesday that he's recommending to Southern's Board of Supervisors that women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh take over for the 52-year-old LaFleur on an interim basis.
The chancellor says top Southern administrators agree that dismissing LaFleur now would be the best way to stabilize the athletic program.
LaFleur is a former LSU and NFL tight end and has been AD for six years.
Houston police say LaFleur was arrested on a downtown street Sunday in a prostitution sting. LaFleur was released Monday on $500 bond.
Two listed phone numbers for LaFleur in Baton Rouge were disconnected.
