You can't. If you do, you're out of the game. It's like AAU basketball man. It's part of the game. It's all a grey area.

I am not buying this. Are you saying LSU doesn't possess the ability to scout it's own talent or that every school needs a street agent to deliver said talent?

How in the hell is LSU going to gather info on every top high school football player in the country by itself ? That can NOT be done every year with the staff LSU has, you're nut if you think we can and still WIN football games.

Yes LSU cannot possibly have the man power to send scouts out to every JUCO, and high school to see the wealth of talent that's out there. It's simply impossible. Every school pays these companies that can condense all the info that they need. It's just the same as a head hunting firm that schools use for coaching searches. The companies know where the talent is and who to talk to. The points of contact to get in touch with said recruit and so on. It's getting someone to do all the leg work for the staff so they can have sessions in the office where they review tapes and info.

My own humble opinion is that this is mostly a perception problem. As far as I can tell, the only thing that makes these people "street" agents is that they are being looked into by the NCAA. What defines a "street" agent vs. a legitimate recruiting service other than interest from the NCAA? In other words, what would have appeared different to teams like Oregon and LSU that would signify that these guys are different from any other so-called "legitimate" scouting service?

I guess my question would be this: if there's such a big difference that anyone can see, who are the other "street" agents out there that anyone who follows recruiting intimately can identify before the NCAA points them out for us?
