FWIW, The problems were "fixed" with the 2006 6.0l matter or fact there were less recalls with the 6.0l diesel then any other engine ford has made. they stopped putting them in trucks because of regulations, but their commercial vehicles kept the 6.0l even when the 6.4 came out. I have heard that the 6.4 was garbage and that is why it only lasted 2 years...that is just what i gathered from my research when i was looking for my truck. That being said i have still heard of issues in the 06's but not in 07's which makes me believe the problem was fixed in 06 not for 06...look at the door and see when your truck was actually made, not the model year. hope that helps.

The 6.4's weren't really garbage, minus the mileage issue. The 6.4 was basically a temporary fix from Navistar because Ford was having so many warrantee issues/complaints with the 6.0. The 6.4 was basically used as a patch while Ford developped the new 6.7 in house and have since cut ties with Navistar. The 6.4 only lasting 2 years was strictly due to Ford ending their ties with Navistar.
