I have a aluminum 12 foot jon boat. The aluminum is not very thick. There are a few holes in it I am going to put hypoxy on. But I want to put some kind of liner. To keep the holes covered. Put it on inside or outside? Will that work? What type of liner should I use? Rino or Durapak or LineX. Want to use the less expensive because it is a cheap boat. Oh also The aluminum is very smooth. I want something that will stick. Any input would be great thx

Go to Home Depot/Lowes and get the dark gray shop mat sold by the roll. Just cut it to fit, you can take it out to wash it and it will reduce noise in your boat. It's not expensive and use the rest in your shop.

I'm not sure i understand the need to cover the holes, just aesthetics?

I would think covering holes in a boat, that floats on water, would be a pretty damn good idea... But that's just me, I may be stupid...

You said it.

The OP is gonna put epoxy on the holes, the gist of the thread, since you missed it, is:

You should get those holes welded up. I would not be very expensive and will last longer compared to a sealer.

The aluminum is too thin. It will bubble if I get it welded.

The mat is a good idea though.

I would simply use some quicksteel aluminum repair (works great and cures very hard).

If you wanted to add a protective layer the most I would do to save money is a layer of outdoor carpet glued in place (only a few spots of glue)with liquid nail. I would do this on the interior of the boat so you can enjoy not getting your bare feet burned while jerking lips.
