I recently have started looking at the 1911's because you hear a ton about them and I want a new pistol but forgive my ignorance on the subject what is the draw of a 1911? I like the way they look, but it seems like there is a whole community that is in love with a 1911 and talk about other pistols as crap.

John Brownings classic. HISTORY The pistol of the United States military for 2 world wars, Korea, and Vietnam. Ergonomics.-Nothing feels like a thin bodied, crisp triggered, slab side 1911. The .45 one big slow bad arse caliber. 1911s have passed the test of time. Colt is the brand most associated with 1911s( the Baer, Wilson etc customs are just too expensive).Kimbers are fine, they sell the most 1911s ,meaning you will hear more whining about something that can be easily fixed on a Kimber 1911. What you dont hear is the thousands of Kimbers that run like a clock.Kimbers do seem to prefer wilson combat mags, for some reason.1911 s seem to be the pistol for gun enthusiests,if you want just a pistol for self defense , other models are cheaper and still go BOOM. If you want a piece of history and gun art , nothing beats a 1911. 1911s are tight and have to be broken in. 500 rds or so , thats a few bucks worth of ammo
I have a 1911 with the crimson trace grips ,I love these grips and the laser is very small, out of the way, most people wouldnt even notice it ,until it makes it self known to the target. Then it gets your attention,if the business end of a .45 hasnt already. If you want something just for defense Id go with some model that comes in single/ double with a decocker. Also a revolver is simple ,safe and great for self defense. If you want one gun for the rest of your life ,a 1911 is it. Personaly ,I dont like the safety or lack of on Glocks , Ive heard to many bad stories and know people that have had accidents with them, thankfully they are fine.
