Serious question Roger: Do you still feel the same seeing those landscapes now as you did when you first went to Alaska? How quickly did those sights which make us all look in awe become just part of the the everyday backdrop for you?

FIL was a green jeans there and they still live a few miles away. I was certainly fishing and catching that morning on flies I tied myself. Do you stop in at Reedings when you go?

Yeah, but I am still infatuated with the place. Honestly, pictures or vids don't do it justice. Every morning the sun hits the mountain peaks blows me a way. I was driving in this morning looking the Chilkat Range to the West and it looked every bit as spectacular as it ever did. If you love the mountains and nature, you could never get tired of it. There are hundreds of places within an hour of here that most people have never seen, including myself. The same mountains look different in various seasons, and light. Never look the same. It never gets old to me. I've got a lot of trips planned this summer to places I haven't been in a couple of years, so I am pretty stoked if the weather holds out. Starting May 4th by going to Tracy Arm/Fords Terror Wilderness. Here is a hiking vid I took Sunday a few miles from the house on the North End of Douglas Island. Some amazing scenery once you hit the beach. LINK

Then you landed in the right place. I am that way about the outdoors too. I could never get tired of the majestic trees deep in the woods, the ripples in a lilly pad filled pond, or sway of marsh grass as the wind lightly blows. As far as pictures not doing the reality justice, I expericencd that first hand in the Grand Canyon. We were driving through Flagstaff and I almost passed on the GC because "It's just a big freaking rock hole and you have seen it all on TV before." I'm glad I have a persistent wife. Amazing is all I can say.

I can never have a bad day that can't be fixed by a few minutes outdoors. The mountains are like medicine.

Yeah, it's usually disappointing to me when I see the photos, and realize how much isn't there. There are some gorgeous places in this country, not just in AK but in the lower 48 that a man could spend a lifetime and barely scratch the surface. I always loved Caddo Lake, down in your neck of the woods.

I don't think I've been to Reedings, what/where is it? I go there to turkey hunt. You can't hunt after 1:00 there so when we get bored in the afternoons sometimes we'll ride to the campground and see how the fishermen are doing near the hatchery.

In addition to the video above, I took some stills on my hike. First one is low (actually rising) tide. Tidal range at the extreme can be 21' Mountain range in the background is one of the most wild, uninhabited and even unexplored places on earth. From Juneau up to Haines there is nothing, but maybe a couple cabins along St. James Bay. On the other side of them is Glacier Bay National Park. Next is a Muskeg meadow. Muskeg is an early peat bog in the making. It's like standing on a massive sponge. The trees are the only true pines that grow here and only grow in Muskeg. These stunted trees are 200-300 years old at least, and surrounded by 200' old growth spruce and hemlock. At high tide, where I took this one is underwater. Early season fisherman in a skiff doesn't seem intimidated by the huge wall of the Coastal/Boundary Ranges.

Did you take the photo in your sig pic? It's amazing. I've always been fascinated with the northern lights, hope I can see them one day. We're headed to Niagara Falls at the end of May, but I'm pretty sure that's still too far south to see the lights.
