What really sucks is that it died 4 months after the 3 years warranty expired. Why couldn't it have died in September.
Going to get the xbox slim tomorrow. Are there any issues with the slim. Have they corrected the problems of the old 360. Microsoft said yes, but I really don't trust them right now. Anybody got the slim and how is it?

smooth sailing so far.
supposedly, the system will shut itself before it overheats, effectively preventing the RROD. I've never even had the emergency shutdown yet. Can't say for sure that something awful isn't on the horizon though.

Thanks for the feedback and the info on about it shutting down before overheating. I guess I can be more at ease tomorrow buying the slim.

Fix it for like $20. Easy to do.

Please do tell me more. I wouldn't mind having 2 xbox (bought the slim last night), one for the living room and one for the bedroom. Since it's out of warranty I will have no hesitation whatsoever opening it up.

Ive tried the xclamp fix on an older one (pre HDMI). It lasted for about 2 weeks...

google 'stick fix'. got mine to limp along til the new slim's were released.
shite, to guarantee i got a slim for little to nothing due to trade in of my old broken one. I did the stick fix in the parking lot of gamestop. My truck has a AC outlet in the bed. I applied the stick fix out there, carefully put it in a carrying bag. walked it, traded it in,.....got a brand new one. sux for the guy who bought my old one.

I googled stick fix but it was only to repair the controller and not the rrod. Thinking about using the towel method but afraid that I might burn out the motherboard.
Anybody used the towel methods yet?

I tried the towel method and it didn't work. Heard a buddy did it and it worked, so maybe I did it wrong?

Don't fix your older one. The slim is great- it runs quietly and cooler, and as a failsafe, it will shut off before overheating.
Get the slim and have the peace of mind knowing this

Oh, I'm definitely keeping the slim. It's just that I have a sentimental attachment to my 360 pro. It has served me so well, and I bought so many acccessories for it, I just hate the idea of just throwing it away. Sounds weird but it is in such a pristine condtion, not one scratch or dent on it...seems such a waste to junk it.

i did the towel trick a couple of weeks ago for the first time. so far my 360 has run smoothly. hopefully it will stay like that for a while

Towel tricked worked for about a month and a half for me

I'm waiting to hear back from microsoft to see if the will fix my old one for free. I registered my slim to show them that I'm a loyal customer and hopefully they will be grateful and fix it at no charge. If not, then I'm doing the towel trick. I've already have the fire extinguisher of standby

Go to ebay and order the fix kit. $20 and it'll work. I've used mine for months now.
