Why is it retarded to financially secure the services of the most successful football coach in LSU history?

It's stupid to guarantee that much to a coach that hasn't won his division in 3 years. I'd be fine with Miles getting a 5 year contract at his current salary with it guaranteed, thus his original $18.75M buyout. That is actually still utterly ridiculous, but Skip Bertman fricked us over and we're going to pay for it.

To essentially guarantee him another $7.5 Million on top of that is utter pathetic.

This is based on belowpar's posts on the coaching board too.

Les could go 0-12 next year and he's still guaranteed basically $22.5 million dollars.

The new contract is for 7 years but the guarantee is still $18.75M for the first two years of the contract. In year 3 it goes down to $15M and then reduces by $3.75M every year after that.

I am not sure where you are getting this from but it is not what I have heard. Link?

Again, the total amount of the contract is not guaranteed... only the $18.75M that was in the original contract. Also, the automatic rollover was taken out of the contract.
