If it can get any worse, then Billy should just up and retire right now.

Eh, his name isn't Crowton so I'd be willing to give it a shot. Would definitely have to hire a QB coach though.

well if he called the Cotton Bowl, maybe he should be considered.

Ok, by me. I have a feeling he could be pretty good. Certainly has been around good offenses and offensive people. I had thought that the reason he left UF was because he didn't get the OC job there after Mullen left.

someone needs to push old man crowton down some stairs or something. theres no way in hell he should still be in charge of this offense.

I am certainly not one of these "you have to be proven" guys - I think it unfairly limits potentially great candidates from an already limited pool.
However, I will say this:
Mettenberger, the QB of the not-to-distant future, does not fit the spread which is the only thing BG has ever worked under or played under.
Jefferson, the immediate QB of the future, doesn't fit it very well.
Steven Rivers, the QB of the future, does not fit the spread.
Our WRs did not get better this year. The catching, down-field blocking and route-running was horrible.
I don't trust Miles' ability to assess coordinator candidates. Signed Bill Clay, Gary Crowton, Malleveto.
I think Miles should go with a proven commodity here, however, after extorting a presumably favorable, yet unearned contract amendment, Miles probably has the stroke to do whatever he wants. So, he can probably get away with promoting BG. However, as mentioned above, BG doesn't really fit the next 2-3 LSU quarterbacks from a talent fit perspective.

I find this point interesting.
I distinctly remember at least one short-side option in the first quarter of the Cotton Bowl but we're supposed to believe that only GC is dumb enough to call that play. (P.S., I think that is Les' favorite override play and I believe he consistently overrides play calls and has since, at least, the Arkansas game of Jimbo's last season).
Who called the Chik-Fil-A Bowl against GA Tech? Who called the Va Tech game or the MNC vs. Ohio St.?
Who called the defense against the last games against: Tebow, Newton and Masoli. Will we try that same conservative approach against Darron Thomas or did we learn anything from watching the last half of the season, including last night's game, relative to aggressive pressure affecting the Oregon offense?

O.k., I know I'll get flamed, however, I talked to a player (I'm friends with), half way through the season, he told me Gonzales knew the offense better than Crowton, the players really like him...I think this may be a possibility...

Should have gone after Harsin when we had the chance. With that hire LSU would be damn near unbeatable.
