Stop the Coach Speak!

Hello, Coaches. I have just a little advice to you all. When you are interested in a open coaching position and you are asked about it, just admit it. Is that so hard? There is no reason to beat around the bushes or flat out lie. Just tell the truth. We can handle the truth!
Take a look at Coach Miles situation. If he is not interested in the Michigan job, just come out and say so. However, if he is interested in it, then why not just say so as well.
How hard is it to say the following:
"First of all, I love LSU and love being the head football coach at LSU and love my football team.
As most of you all know, I also have a love for Michigan, where I both played and coached. My agent has been contacted by Michigan regarding their open coaching position, and I have agreed to interview for the position and listen to what they may have to offer.
However, I told them that my current focus is winning an important bowl game for LSU on January 7th, and that I will have no further discussions with them until after that game.
My focus is doing the job that I am being paid to do. It is my responsibility to my school, my team, and to Tiger fans worldwide to be 100% focused on beating a tough Texas A&M football team.
Since I have told you all that I know about the Michigan coaching search as it involves me, I expect all of your questions to be focused on the upcoming bowl game. Any questions?"
Some statement like that would make me think more of the coach then saying things like, "I will not be the next coach at Alabama" while you are actively pursuing the position.

Would you be this open and honest with your current employer about a position with another company?

By the way Terry, have you ever had a job? If so, did you ever change jobs? Did you go tell your boss, friends, co-workers, etc... about it before you sat down to interview for the new job? That's a good way to get your arse fired, man.

Rrrriiiggghhhhtttt.
So a fan base at one college would be thrilled when a coach from there school says, "Hey, I'm going to talk with another school about their job opening." Then when that school picks another coach, you have to go back to your original school and say, "But I really do love you too."
Not to mention, coaches don't want to be embarrassed by everyone knowing that they were beat out for a job.

In every profession there is a certain protocol about interviewing for other positions. In the college coaching profession, the protocol is for the AD of the program seeking a head coach to get permission from the other school's AD to interview one of his coaches. So unless your name is Bobby Petrino, your "boss" already knows about the interview.

Should Harbaugh come out and tell the media he's not sure about staying at Stanford and is talking to Michigan and also every NFL team that has a potential opening? I'm sure that will fly real well with the Stanford fan base. Better to keep your mouth shut and try to fly under the radar as best you can.

You skipped the step where the AD contacts the coach's agent to determine interest. Everybody seems to forget the role agents play in this dance.

Still different than publicly acknowledging it.
