Anyone use one of these on their dog? The kind you plug into your house and has about a 90 foot radius all around.

I have a rather large dog and I'm worried he will just go charging right through where the "fence" ends and it won't be effective.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions?

When I do landscaping in the summer, I'll have a few large dogs run though their "fence" either scared of the mower or coming after me.

Any reason a permanent fence can't be built?

Yeah, my parents have one for a full grown chocolate lab. It works great for them.

They live in the city limits and instead of making him stay on a running leash, we ran the fence around the entire yard and he just roams around while they are at work. Also, he is not a calm dog. He's kind of hates people that he doesn't know. If a person walks by their house, he'll bark at them, growl, and run along the yard at them, but never gets within 5 or 6 ft of the underground fence.

I would highly recommend it to somebody looking at one.

Works on some dogs, not on others. I had a border collie mix that would laugh at it. And once they get out (like chasing a squirrel) they won't come back.

You bury a wire to install.

I know one person who lost 2 boxers due to them getting out and another lost their lab bc it also got out and got hit by a car. If they are chasing something, that shock will not stop them, and once they're out, the shock keeps them from coming back in.

I'll never use one fwiw

I have one for my bassett hound and I must say it works well. Mine is like the one you are describing. It is wireless remote. Just plug it in and it is ready to go. I have had mine for about three years and havent had a problem yet. It took my dog getting popped about three times and he had it figured out. Now when he hears it start beeping he is turning the other way!!! And this isnt your ordinary bassett hound....he is VERY energetic to say the least. The trick is to put it on the highest setting to start out so they get the message real quick. I started mine out on a medium to low setting to start out and he barely flinched. Cranked it up all the way and he understood what was going on then!! I highly recommend getting one. I got mine for the same situation you are describing. Mine is made by Pet Safe.

used the underground ones for labs and it works. the only thing that they have run out of the fence for is to follow me when I walk into the woods to hunt. one has chased a deer throught it but has also stopped at it and watched deer before

I have the underground one that goes all the way around the backyard. After a brief "training" period it works perfectly. The dogs are smart though and know when the collar is on/off and will behave accordingly. One of the collar's shorted out a fried her fricking neck which I was not very happy about.

Overall Im pleased with the product and would recommend it.
