I was thinking this as well but as another poster stated, I believe that he has to have a warrant to do this.

I agree with this. He has to be. There is no reason to take your camera without notifying you and then replacing it unless he is doing something shady.

This is what I would do. He/ she should be able to tell you if this is legal or if something is wrong.
