I never understood why people care what games others enjoy. Truth be told I have a few of those games you listed and they aren't worth $60 either but that's my opinion like your long winded post is your opinion.
I do find it funny taking a look at your list of games to see what you enjoy and how I could very easily stereotype you like you do to people who play FPS games.
People will enjoy what they enjoy and for me the CoD series, no matter how cookie cutter you THINK it may be, is about a lot of things. There's a social aspect to it when playing with friends and there is also competing against other people and not just trying to beat a pre scripted game. It's a nice change and helps fill some of the competitive nature I have. I am sure it's the same for many.
As far as FPS games ruining gaming it is a stretch to blame it solely on that genre. Gaming is much like Hollywood where original ideas are hard to come by and when one is successful it will be emulated over and over. That's just the way it is but still yet there are always good games to be had not in the FPS camp. There were many this year and even more lined up next year.
I would argue we are at a peak of just how many choices we have covered in every genre.
Maybe you should just stick to what you like and not worry about what others find pleasures in. Your life may be more enjoyable if you do.
