MISSION, Kan.— The National Collegiate Athletic Association said today it put the Louisiana State University football program on a one-year probation without sanctions.
The findings of the infractions committee were announced last month by L.S.U.. ''The violations found in football were not considered serious in nature,'' Frank J. Remington, chairman of the N.C.A.A. Infractions Committee, said.

Link? I realize you and your fellow Trojan fans are still applying novacaine to your collective anal cavities, but let's be real.
LSU has always been one of the cleanest football programs in the country. We've been penalized exactly twice in football, for a total loss of two scholarships and four recruiting visits, pending the McCarthy findings.
In our history. Look at the current top twenty five, and come back and post all the schools with less penalties there than LSU.
Take your time.

Found out about these:
quote:
From the official NCAA report:
"The violations found in football were not considered serious in nature," said Frank J. Remington, chair, NCAA Committee on Infractions, "and they did not demonstrate a pattern of abuse by the football coaching staff.
"It should be emphasized, however, that one current assistant football coach violated a recruiting rule when he transported a prospect to a restaurant and entertained the young man for a meal. Although that violation was not considered serious in itself, the incident was compounded when the coach subsequently gave false information to the NCAA and his institution regarding the matter.
"The committee, therefore, imposed disciplinary action against the assistant coach and determined after a review of all findings that a one-year probationary period would be an appropriate monitoring period." A coach bought a recruit lunch.
A coach bought a recruit a Whopper and then lied about it. I forget who this was, but wow.

I was at LSU during this time, and I believe it was actually a meal at WhatABurger.

I'm guessing that recruit went elsewhere then.

If you really believe that the infractions found were the only ones that ever occurred at LSU, then you are truly truly naive. But I'll bite. I taught a class at LSU for five years. There was an athlete with a low D. I got a call from an academic advisor asking what could be done, if anything. I told her EVERY student had the opportunity for 10 extra credit points by turning in a 10 page paper with 10 references. She assured me this athlete would have it the day it was due (in three days). He surely turned it in. It was almost suitable for professional publication. But there was one problem- it was on a topic unrelated to the class. I e-mailed the student-athlete. No response. Then poof, I got a call from the advisor who stated he must have mixed it up with another student's paper at the acadmic lab or whatever because another student has his paper. 100% tue story. There ya go. now is this only hapening at LSU? No way. But my point is stuff goes on everywhere that is never founded or made public. But as naive as you sound, you probably believe he did mix up this outstanding paper with another student-athlete's.
BTW, not sure what my post has to do with USC, but nice tray anyway.
Oh, I cannot find the thread, but since YOU brought up USC, I bet you still think JJ is the better QB, as you stated earlier

These are the only ones LSU has ever been penalized for. You sound like a conspiracy theorist. You think LSU gets better treatment than all of the other schools? Really?

What tray? I don't see a tray. I do see a USC logo next to your username. BTW, I noticed you never posted the list of schools with less penalties than LSU. Wonder why?

I compared last year's stats for both Barkley and JJ, and JJ's were better. That's just the facts. From last year. Funny you still remember that.

Just because we have not been caught does not mean we have not commited.

Using that logic, it also doesn't mean we have committed. Unless you're like Tangerine, and think the NCAA has a special place in their collective hearts for us.
SWIDT?

Yes and you replied to my statment that those were the ones "founded". You missed the point, which another poster posted directly after your above response. I did not say LSU gets better treatment nor did I imply that.

many people have committed crimes, but were never caught. You really seem to believe that those were the only two LSU has ever comitted.

I never said "founded". I have a better command of the english language than that.

If LSU has only been penalized twice now, yet you believe we deserve more, than you are saying LSU is getting better treatment than all those other schools who have more penalties.
Which is pretty much the entire current top twenty five schools in the country. That's really nice of the NCAA to treat LSU so differently than it treats virtually anyone else.
quote:
many people have committed crimes, but were never caught
Which brings up the obvious question, how do you know they committed the crimes in the first place?

Can you prove me wrong? No? Sucks to be you.
Have a great day.

Question: who handles LSU's NCAA compliance? As I recall there is/was lawyer named Pharis.

Wrong yet again. That is YOUR interpretation, not what I implied. I did not say LSU got better treatment. I stated LSU has not gotten caught as much. Can you prove me wrong? No? Have a nice day!

I already told you. As for people, I committed one today and did not get caught. I've seen others committ crimes and not get caught. So yes, I do know. You know as well, but choose to play with words to support your belief that LSU has committed (not been found, just committed) only two violations.
Just as you adamantly stated that JJ is a better QB. That's were you lost what little credibility you had.

Tomayto, tomahto.
The NCAA goes where they smell smoke. Because that's where they find the fires. No smoke here.
How do I know LSU is running a clean, well-monitored program?
LSU just turned itself in for the McCarthy violations. Our compliance office found about the violations before anyone else, suspended the coach, revoked the player's scholarship, and notified the NCAA without anyone telling them to.
That's how a creditable football program is run. You might take notes, and pass them along where they're needed.
Know anyone like that?
