You will never be able to say "they don't deserve it" unless and until there is a playoff to prove it. The scoreboard don't lie.
False
No one is saying Boise & TCU can't hang with the big boys. Herbstreit and all the clowns on College Football Live even say in one game on a neutral field either team can hang with anybody.
What is in question is whether they deserve the shot. I'm not sure Boise has played BCS conference teams in back-to-back weeks yet. Compare that to an SEC/Big10 schedule. If the system is a 2 team playoff, could you honestly say Boise deserves to play in the game over any undefeated SEC/Big10/Pac10 school? I didn't think so.
If March Madness was substituted for the BCS and only had 1 game to determine the national champion, would Butler have been anybody's choice? But that's the difference. College Basketball is about the post-season while football is about the regular season.
The BCS is good for college football imo. If Boise or TCU should play in the national championship over an undefeated or 1-loss Auburn or Oregon, it will tell everyone that its ok to play a bullshite schedule. Now you have to earn the right, and its why teams schedule the marquee, cross-country powerhouse matchups. If not, then the cupcakes like Temple or a Florida International would schedule all 1AA opponents because they'll have a shot at the show if the come out of the season unscathed.

College football also unfortunatly has a great deal of emphasis placed on the preseason as well.

Like #1 Org? Whose powerhouse matchup is a 3-6 Tenn team who's signature win is over a 3-6 CUSA team?
Or #7 Wisc? Whose powerhouse matchup is 4-5 Arizona State Whos biggest win is over 3-6 washington?
Or #8 Neb whose powerhouse matchup is 3-6 washington?
Lets get real, BCS schools with the rare exception of a few, try to make the OOC road as weak as possible. Outside of Clemson (who is no workd beater) who did Aub schedule OOC? LSU did a fantastic job this year with OOC though and should recieve credit.
The thing that everyone who bitches about this conviently ignores is that so far Oregon only has two wins against teams that have a better than .500 record.
