Judge a team by how they play, not who they play. BCS conference elitism (and money) is what is driving the non-AQ conferences to revolt. You will never be able to say "they don't deserve it" unless and until there is a playoff to prove it. The scoreboard don't lie.

And exactly how is "judging a team by how they play" supposed to work, scientifically?

If they beat 12 teams with 0-12 records by 50 points each...does that mean anything?

Anyone that has ever played sports knows... who you play largely determines how you play. Just about any team in the top 20 could look dominant playing the majority of their schedule against teams ranked from 80-120.

False

No one is saying Boise & TCU can't hang with the big boys. Herbstreit and all the clowns on College Football Live even say in one game on a neutral field either team can hang with anybody.

What is in question is whether they deserve the shot. I'm not sure Boise has played BCS conference teams in back-to-back weeks yet. Compare that to an SEC/Big10 schedule. If the system is a 2 team playoff, could you honestly say Boise deserves to play in the game over any undefeated SEC/Big10/Pac10 school? I didn't think so.

If March Madness was substituted for the BCS and only had 1 game to determine the national champion, would Butler have been anybody's choice? But that's the difference. College Basketball is about the post-season while football is about the regular season.

The BCS is good for college football imo. If Boise or TCU should play in the national championship over an undefeated or 1-loss Auburn or Oregon, it will tell everyone that its ok to play a bullshite schedule. Now you have to earn the right, and its why teams schedule the marquee, cross-country powerhouse matchups. If not, then the cupcakes like Temple or a Florida International would schedule all 1AA opponents because they'll have a shot at the show if the come out of the season unscathed.

And how exactly do you quantify that?

Is going 12-0 with the 70th best SOS and beating up a bunch of shitty teams 49-10 somehow more impressive than going 11-1 with a top 10 SOS and beating a bunch of top 30 teams by single digits?
