Very small crowd (Approx. 1200) with the mid and upper sections roped off. The band wasn't there but the cheerleaders were. Johnny O'bryant was there sitting courtside with some of his friends and they had a white dude with dreadlocks and an LSU O'bryant shirt on with O'bryant written on in marks o lot. O'bryant was laid back and laughing at they dude and some people took pics of the white dude and O'bryant standing together.
Here is my quick take on this years squad.

1. Ralston Turner can shoot lights out. I don't know if he was just hot for this game but everything he threw up seemed to go in.
2. The next best player on the floor was probably Malcolm White. He will be our best rebounder along with Storm Warren. White looked like he wasn't too pumped for the scrimmage and is waiting to show his stuff in the season opener next week.
3. The 7'2" walkon tuba player did not play. Neither did Justin Hamilton. Everyone else played.
4. Chris Bass is still fast but still can't control his speed as well as he should.
5. Eddie Ludwig will be a great role player and is probably the most fundamental player on the team.
6. Andre Stringer is like a small Derrick Taylor (See LSU basketball - 1982-86.) He is smooth, can shoot and doesn't panic when he's double teamed.
7. Derenbecker can shoot but he acted like he was the star. He shot the ball a lot after making his first three and struggled with his passing and shooting after that. If he can play under control and not force his shot, he will get a lot of shots off for a guy who is 6'7".
8. Dennis Harris had 3... yes 3 moving screens called on him. He can shoot the ball and is a good defender. He will need to stay healthy for this team to prosper.
9. Storm was non-existant. Probably waitin on the regular season.
10. Garrett Green must be hurt cause he missed the goal on at least two shots.
11. Aaron Dotson did alright. He will never be a star and he will have to be a role player. No way he should start.
12 Jalen Courtney and Daron Populist played sparingly and did nothing eventful.

There was only one dunk in the game and it was by Malcom White and was the final play of the game. Coach J. called the game at about the 9 minute mark of the second half. The team waved to the crowd and went straight to the locker room. From what I saw tonight, this team has improved some but they are still a horrible passing team and guard play will haunt them. At 5'10" and 6'1", Stringer and Bass will have trouble against the SEC big guards. If this team stays healthy they can possibly make the NIT. To expect anything other than that would be almost delusional. The 7'2" big man will probalby redshirt. Sorry to say we will once again have to "wait till next year."

the 7'2 guy is a walk on anyway so don't expect much. turner is shooting as advertised, he's very good spotting up and coming off screens, if he improves off the bounce look out. i like that johnson put stringer with the purple unit. seemed like his game meshed well with that group.

eta- yeah go ahead and take this season in stride. enjoy the improvements we make from last season, enjoy the progress the freshmen will make. sniffing .500 in the conference and being considered for an NIT berth would be a huge achievement for this team. next year is the season where they should take the next big step.

da frick? dude must be 100% improved from last season

i had high hopes for him as a freshman...but after last year's play the year before with a back injury, i don't think he's an SEC cablier player...not even a bench player

frick this is disappointing...a 4-star outta seattle and didn't do shite last year either

anyway, thanks for the recap i'm pumped about the season!!

my prediction is 7-9 in the SEC...with a few lucky breaks 9-7 best case scenario

Gumby is right the tuba player did play awhile. I thought that Dotson looked pretty good, he's healthy and I think he will be good this year. Projected starters:
Stringer PG
Dotson SG
Turner SF
Warren PF
White C

We are one year away

the tuba guy did play a few minutes at the start of the 2nd half. if this team doesn't get better quick, it will be another long season. was very impressed with stringer and turner

My observations:

Purple team seemed to consist of the starters which were:

Stringer
Dotson
Turner
Warren
White

- Stringer was solid and overall smart with the ball. He didn't do much penetrating but showed that he can hit the 3 especially in transition
- Dotson takes a back seat role generally. However, there was one big difference from last year... he hit two open 3s (and it wasn't like he shot many - these are the only 2 i remember him taking) late in the game which he was unable to do last year. He also looked good on one drive getting to the rim w/ good elevation but couldn't finish
- Turner was a scorer period. He could drive, get out in transition, and shoot. Really excited about him
- Storm was relatively quiet. Made a few buckets down low w/ a little fade shot from the post
- White being here w/ Storm is going to be huge. Last year team's could really key on Storm down low but having both of them gives a lot of versatility. White showed he could hit a mid range jumper but didnt really do too much strictly from the post. He also looked a little lax w/ this game kind of joking around a lot but I'm anxious to see him in real action.
- Green and Harris didn't show much improvement from last year. I like how the OP said Green must be hurt bc he missed the goal on two shots. He was either being sarcastic or didn't watch last year in which about 40% of GG shots were airballs
- Bass looks about the same. Still cant shoot
- Populist would be ahead of Bass right now if it were up to me. He has the ability to hit the 3 which he did a couple of times at the game and is relatively smart w/ the ball (don't know what the OP was talking about him playing sparingly bc he played almost the whole time)
- Ludwig looks solid. Won't hurt you, does the right things, etc. Possibly has an improved jumper but didnt take it enough to really tell
- Derenbecker as said hit a couple 3s early but the entire Gold teams offense ran through him so he tried to do way too much at times and probably had near double digits turnovers. He will certainly benefit from not having to carry a load offensively and has some serious range w/ his 3 and no confidence issues

Misc: Tuba guy did play
