They weren't consistent issues under Saban like they have been for 3 years under Miles.

I like you automatically assume this year is just going to turn out the same...

We played poorly that year, but Saban took chances with the QBs and didn't stick to just Randall. It wasn't handled well, but it was just one year.

Right, because we handled everything oh so well in 2002, we went an impressive 8-5...

Saban is a better coach now than he was at LSU.

His accomplishments at LSU are largely overstated.

He continued Dinardo's trend of keeping talented players in state.

He brought LSU to a position of dominance in the SEC. He built up our facilities and shite, which is awesome and he deserves all praise.

But he didn't produce a consistently dominant on the field product.

I agree Saban is a much better coach now than he was at LSU. I think its funny that some people think that idea is bullshite. On that we agree.

You cannot expect those teams to even come close to LSU's talent levels from 2005 through now.

2002 was a prime example of what happens when you lose the starting QB after a 5-1 start and a bullshite move by Va Tech to sneak an earlier game in. Despite all that, LSU was 8-4 in the regular season and was literally one play away in the last game from going back to the SEC title game. We cannot say the same the past 2 years and possibly this year.

Still, I think Miles simply does not have the leadership, focus (meant as in attention to detail), and flexibility (making adjustments on the fly) to lead this team to another SEC title (West or overall).

I truly feel Jimbo and the players that were under Saban were the reason we say any leadership at all in those first 3 years.

Did you not see Jimbo piss away a) last nights game or b) several games at LSU? Dude couldn't hang more than 7 points at auburn for example

Jimbo had bad games, but we put up 9 in 04 and only 3 in 06 under Miles.

Seeing where our offense is today, I don't think Jimbo was necessarily the biggest problem to our offense in those games.

This is the same optimism many use to support Miles... "we were one play away from winning this game or that game"... and the type of thing you would totally deride Miles' supporters for.

So Jimbo held Saban back?

Or Miles?

Both?

Why does Saban get leeway for hanging on to a guy that "pissed away games," but Miles is crucified for the same thing...

It's a double standard.

I'm going to bed now... it's been a heated discussion... and mostly me against 5-6 other posters.

I think Saban is given hindsight credit for things that Miles is currently highly critiqued for.

You can say "2005 LSU was so much more talented" all you want, but 2004 LSU was 4 years and 5 recruiting classes into Saban's tenure... and struggled against overmatched opponents (Troy, Oregon State, Ole Miss), had terrible QB play (Marcus Randall) and yielded a lot more points to a lot shittier teams than the current emanation.

2004 team means nearly every player on the team was recruited by Saban and all of them were coached the majority of their careers by him... and they weren't great.... they were "mediocre", by your own terms (after all, they were 0-3 vs. ranked teams, right?).

He recruits thugs than when they get kicked off the team after some being given multiple chances, it's not on Les that we had attrition since everyone takes on risks. Well actually most successful coaches either take on only a few or actually are stern leaders that show these types of players from the beginning that bullshite won't be tolerated.

How did Jimbo piss away last nights game? He made the perfect call on that last play. The receiver was wide open but the running back was a moron.
