This staff is the highest paid staff in the nation, they are paid to win championships. We could pay the next guy 1 million dollars to win 8 games and save us 2.75million.

So your expectations would be we would hire for savings, and go on to be a perpetual 8 win a year team?

My point is that we pay these guys to win championships not finish 3rd. A high school coach could coach this team to 3rd place finish with our talent for a 3rd of the money. Why dont we add a clause to Miles contract, you dont make it to Atlanta, we dont pay you 3.75 million, we pay less. I bet he runs more than the 8 plays they run now. I bet Sheppard would get the ball more than twice. I bet our defense would blitz more........etc

I think it's far to say that winning 2 NC in the last 7 years, paying top dollar for coaching, and upgrading our facilities has raised the bar of expectations by the fan base and administration. there is a direct correlation between these things.

quote:

What would be your expectations and/or predictions on LSU's record following the firing of Miles? Since it is clear a down time of 8, 9, and possibly 10+ wins this season does not meet many people's expectations, do any here think that those expectations would be met with someone new?

It is more likely that LSU would have at least one 7 win season following Miles's departure, and that is assuming the replacement would pan out eventually. We've seen that it's dangerous to assume this.

i feel like there are a lot of circular arguments on these message boards. how can you fire miles. LSU is 7-1.

i think some of the fan base wants to see the hat go after watching 2008, 2009 and 2010. sure our record is much, much better than the early 1990s. can we say that over the last 2 1/2 seasons that we've seen the best football LSU has played?

do you remember the LA Tech game last year? we held on and just barely beat LA Tech 24-16. in 2007, we thumped them 58-10 and before that in 2003 it was 49-10.

even in the '90's, i can't remember our offense being as woeful as we have been 2008-10.

last week, we gave up the most rushing yards ever by a LSU defense--even more than our early '90's teams or a Lou Tepper coached team without the vaunted drop linebacker. what's worse is that the way we are playing the games is not commensurate with the money we are paying our coaches or the money we have invested in facilities.

i could live with a 9-win LSU team that competed hard and played smart every game. what's mind-numbing is we appear to have more talent and depth than we've ever had and yet we squeak by Troy State @ home.

historically, LSU has played up and down to its opponents. we had a rare run 2001-07. it seems like we are back to old LSU playing up and down to our competition. the big difference now v the '90s is that our talent base (overall) is a whole lot better than it has, which is why we are still winning 8-9 games when we would have only won 5-7 games playing the same way, historically.

if week-in and week-out, a team loaded with talent is squeaking by teams that it should beat by 10+ or more, you have to ask yourself if we are truly getting the best value out of our coaching.
