What would be your expectations and/or predictions on LSU's record following the firing of Miles? Since it is clear a down time of 8, 9, and possibly 10+ wins this season does not meet many people's expectations, do any here think that those expectations would be met with someone new?

It is more likely that LSU would have at least one 7 win season following Miles's departure, and that is assuming the replacement would pan out eventually. We've seen that it's dangerous to assume this.

I for one think it would be a mistake to replace Miles, as it stands now. It's vrtually impossible for a team to transition from a very successful coach immediately to another very successful coach. Partly because schools don't usually fire very successful coaches while they are still succeeding. And partly because the transition itself is a huge obstacle.

The definition of successful can be debated here. Usually opining on Miles's success would be along the lines of saying he is successful, followed by some qualifier steeped in opinion and lacking much factual backing (i.e. speculating on the future).

The calls for his termination just seem terribly shortsighted to me.

Do the calls for benching JJ seem short-sided to you as well. He's got a better winning percentage as a player than Miles does as a coach?

But he's probably just a shade better than Chris Relf as far as SEC West QBs go.

I'd argue that Miles is the WORST coach in the SEC West right now. Every single coach in the SEC would beat Miles consistently with equal talent.

I would expect at least parity with other SEC West coaches.

Let me get this straight: You're ready to settle for more of the same performances we've seen for the last two years? Granted, 9-3 doesn't look bad, especially to lesser teams, but 9-3 in the SEC West means third place, dude. Let's say Auburn is just a blip on the radar, ditto Arkansas. Bama ain't going away. Saban continues to attract top recruits and molds champion-caliber teams. Ready to settle for Second Place in the West? That's what it sounds like because that's our future if we don't make some dramatic changes sooner than later.

Why? there is a lot of talent that's not being used to their potential.

Hmmm GRtiger..that's a bold statement. Yet I think you're right in your subsequent post. You are too young. If you can't remember LSU in the 1990's, you are too young to make such a statement. I can pull out of my arse a coaching transition that contradicts your statement - Johnson/erikson. Or how about Saban to Miles? Coaching transitions don't always occur in relation to a termination of employment. Successful coaches can QUIT and be replaced by successful coaches. It happens and is not "virtually" impossible.

In the words of a pretty good coach, "we just want to improve and get better each week"..."winning will take care of itself if we stay focused on getting better as individuals and then as a team"

Nick Saban

Your understanding of the coaching situation is flawed.....getting better and making progress is the goal.............winning is the byproduct of doing first things first.

To compete consistently the SECW and win, make the most of the talent he has at his disposal and make sound coaching decisions 90% or more of the time. This is something I don't think is going to happen as long as CLM is in charge.

Yes I think a run of the mill average coach could do this, hell its happening right now. Should be no problem for a better than average coach.

He is a great recruiter, and that has carried him, the talented players have carried him.

I really don't think firing Miles is the answer at this point. Recruiting wins as many games or more than coaching. To this point- Miles recruits with the best of them.

If your team cannot match up, and you are relying on "Scheme" day in and day out....good luck. I'll take Miles and his recruiting ability every day. He just needs a better OC and this nightmare can end.

Great strawman argument that you built up just to knock down. So, if I want to replace Lesticles, I'm consigning us to a 7 win season? Nice way to frame the debate. Look, I don't agree with the pretense of your argument, but I'll take a 7 win season to get rid of this dumb arse football squatter and finding some fresh coaching talent.

well, finishing 9-3 would likely mean a 3rd or 4th place finish in the west, nowhere near good enough to make it to atlanta...again.

is that successful?

You are making a lot of assumptions in your post. Every coach at LSU since Charlie Mac won at least the same amount of games as the previous coach with 2 coaches winning more games. Bill Arsnparger left and Archer won more games the next year. Saban left and Miles won more games.
