It looks like you've defined "elite" as every team clearly above LSU, historically. You could easily include LSU in "elite" status using the very information you provided. It looks like LSU has the third-most success since the inception of the SECCG. But you just drew the line after two teams.

No shite, Sherlock.

Since the inception of the SECCG, Florida and Bama have clearly been the best teams in the SEC.

And going forward another 20 years, I won't be surprised if Bama and Florida continue to dominate. Because that's what elite teams do.

You homers keep saying "we should be this" or "we could be that" and while I might agree that we could be, we never have been. We've never stayed at that level for more than a year or two.

The reason LSU and Auburn have such a highly competitive game every year is because LSU and Auburn are almost mirror images of each other. Both of want to be better than Bama, just as much as the Red Sox want to be better than the Yankees. We aren't.

The more you talk...the dumber it gets

How competitive has the Alabama/LSU game been the last 10 years? EVEN w/ Lord Saban there?

LSU is elite as it's ever been since 2001....deal with it

Wow, man. You've simple stated the obvious. In fact, there was a whole SI.com article about this recently. But that doesn't mean that there can't be another "elite" team. It's pretty obvious that LSU has a good program, most any outsider would tell you that. You want to call it "elite" or not, that is simply a label.

Somehow, because Florida and Bama have had the most success so far - LSU can't breakthrough (or continue to do so). Is that your point?

The problem many LSU fans have is that they think we should be an elite SEC team but can't accept that even under Nicky Saban we never have been an elite team. We've been good, even great, but never elite. I don't know that we ever will be.

2 national championships, 4 BCS bowl total, 4 SEC west titles, 10 bowl berths, 4 top 5 finishes in 10 years and we arent elite?

I think your premise is all wrong here.

Historically, i think you have an argument, but to contextualize your argument for where we are today, your argument doesn't hold water.

we've been as elite from 2003-2007 as any team in the country.

further, what's gotten LSU fans so upset is that things have shifted.

Historically, we haven't had the best facilities.
Today, our facilities rival almost any other team in the country.

Historically, we haven't paid top dollar for coaching.
Today, we have one of the top paid head coaches in college football.

Historically, we are a 7 or 8-win team.
Today, over the last decade we've been at or near the top of the SEC in football in wins, SEC crowns, Nat'l Titles, etc. about the only thing we haven't done is have a player win the heisman.

Historically, you might have an argument.
In the context of the last 10 years, your argument fails. that's what's frustrating the fan base.

Take out the 1990's and now tell me where we sit.

Again, Florida didn't even have success until 2 years before conference expansion.

Florida and their two state counterparts, the Noles and Canes, cycles in and out and this year and the Zooker years are prime examples. Florida has been, historically, far from dominating as Kentucky...but last 20 years, yes, they've been good.

You mean Alabama's two SECCG victories trumps LSU's three? How amazing!

We beat Bama 7 out of the last ten years, think that is a pretty good record for a decade, and I think we actually won 5 in a row during these years
