Again, these devastating hits can and I believe will be broken down into 3 clear categories

Any helmet to helmet contact that is non-accidental
Forearm to the helmet
Leading with the crown of your helmet to any part of the body

It's easy to enforce and doesn't take a single thing away from the game

I highly doubt these new rules are going to turn people away from the NFL.

New rules plus a lockout next year would damage the sport, even the almighty NFL.

I like how you add to add "lockout" in there.

It was to liken the situation to the NHL debacle.

Why does basically every former player disagree?

I'm not saying you are wrong but no one knows how they are going to enforce it. Hitting with the crown of your helmet is more likely going to injure the hitter more the the person being hit so anyone who hits that way is a retard but it happens often. If you watch a lot of football a lot of players are great hitters that don't tackle properly. I don't know if it's because they didn't learn the correct way or just don't care but that's how you get yourself paralyzed.

Because former players are scared that their precious little game is becoming pussified. They're retarded knuckledraggers like yourself...probably from years of head injuries that will hopefully now be prevented.

I'm the head of Neurology and have 2 degrees. Knuckledgragger? Come on...we're better than this.

It happens all the time, and yea this rule will cut down on injuries to the player delivering the hit also. Another positive.

if you're willing to sacrifice player safety to keep football on the level of macho man-ness you want it to be...yes, you're a fool

I understand you concern but it's football, people will always get head injuries unless they decide to quit tackling all together. I had a teammate that blocking on punt return and ran into his own teammate and suffered a concussion.

So just because it randomly happens that means we shouldn't try to make it less prevalent? The chances of a freak accident concussion are much less than that of a player engaging another in a helmet to helmet hit.

If you read the thread you would see I agree with the rule against helmet to helmet hits. The new big hit rule is the one I don't like.

You can but it doesn't work.

Remove the helmet and pads, bet the severity of injuries diminishes. May have an occasional severe head injury, but fewer injuries total.

I have played in flag football games where heads were busted and had to go to the emergency room and we weren't being overly aggressive. It would be scary watching men the size of a NFL player playing without head gear or shoulder pads. I agree it would slow the game down overall but there will always be crazy guys out there who don't care about their bodies.

There would be less hitting and more arm tackling. Probably more stitches, and less knee problems. If the NFL was serious about injuries, they would revisit the whole pad issue. Pads are basically making it easier to become more violent.

The NFL knows the fan loves the violence of the game and will do as little as possible to decrease it. I don't advocate any changes to be honest. Its a violent game where athletes have finally tested the limits of the body to handle the stresses they put on it. People pay to see just that.

Yeah, this kind of goes against my argument but that hit on Deshean was a clean hit. At the same time it was still very disturbing to watch. The guy from Rugters looked like he just had his head down. Someone at that level should know how to tackle by now but I see players do it every weekend.
