Better if you let them set an opening offer.
Otherwise something along the line of "I've had offers ranging from ________ to _________. It's always a balance between the nature of the job, and its compensation . . . ."
(It is, BTW......Career growth potential, benefits, job stability, vacation, etc. are all part of that balance)
" . . . What would you typically offer for someone of my training and background?"
