I don't think the QB is holding or starting "falsely". Now, if there's evidence JJ's fudging up the snap count, that's one thing, but, then wouldn't everybody be doing it including the center?

I'm not defending the anemic offensive production, the lackluster (generous description at best), but the play called is often a longer pass and the defense forces the QB to take the dump off. Sometimes the receiver makes a play and still gets the first. A play is not necessarily a good (or bad) play, based soley on success or failure to achieve a first down. The QB is not wrong to make the dump off, solely because it fails to get the first down. Progressions are progressions.
