JJ checks down to those routes. Believe it or not but plays have certain route combinations that are designed to exploit certain defenses. Sometimes the short routes hold the linebackers up while the first down route comes open behind them. Our problem is our QB checks down to the short route as soon as he sees them open and doesn't allow our deeper routes to progress.

He doesn't check down half the time. When he threw that INT, he never checked down.

GW12...does this mean JJ is making bad checks? The route not being designed right? Or that is just the way it is? I've seen Steve Young harp on this point a number of times...i.e. not running a route that will get a first down so I am curious why we seem to do it so often.
