Newton threw some decent balls last night. JJ has absolutely HORRIBLE mechanics, especially his release/accuracy.
AU doesn't have the playmakers LSU has either. I think that is obvious.
Newton ran with authority and was running people over. Dude looked like a developing stud to me. Slide him over in LSU's offense and I think he'd explode(minus Crowton being OC).
I think the gap isn't huge. If JJ works on a couple things, he can be a really good QB. The main thing he needs to work on is his accuracy and progression reads. Stop locking onto WRs. I thought he showed some progression in the UNC game by actually sitting in the pocket. Although, he still held onto the ball way too long, another problem. He was jittery with the ball, even when he stood in the pocket. When he stepped up for the deep ball to RR, he got destroyed by someone.

Tryelle Pryor has horrible mechanics, and he's a heisman canidate

Credibility gone.
There are a lot of things to criticize Jefferson for, but accuracy isn't one of them.
In all honesty, I think a lot of posters here only watch LSU games and don't take the time to watch other college QBs. Even the best college QBs throw errant passes from time to time. Hell, Drew Brees is arguable the most accurate passer in the NFL and he threw two or three passes off the mark last night.

Oh no, someone is repeating the talking points.
JJ threw the ball with good mechanics, much improved over his freshman year.

This happens to the QB, it actually is a GOOD thing.

YALL QBs are taught to be jittery in the pocket, keeping feet moving and not becoming a statue.

So much for pre-season rankings...
